Beware

The new gameplay trailer for the driving horror game Beware is out, and it’s really a sight to behold. Set to the droning tunes of a creepy synth song, it shows a descent into the surreal from behind the wheel. What starts off as a slightly unnerving drive down a desolate, murky road evolves into being chased by eldritch trucks through increasingly bizarre and dystopian landscapes. It’s an incredibly innovative concept with an art style to match.

New Beware Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Environments & Enemies

Beware is currently in early development Unity engine game. At the base, it's an open-world driving simulation where the player embarks on a long journey of information-gathering through exploration. One of the gameplay elements are intense, 70's movies style, car chases with challenging AI opponents.

In case you haven’t noticed from my flower fawning in the first paragraph, I am very much in love with what the new Beware trailer is showing me. I’m also very impressed by the fact that this whole thing has been put together by one guy, Ondrej Svadlena. The horror genre, in gaming and otherwise, tends to fall into formulas pretty easily, so anything that shakes things up always makes me happy. And I think we can all agree we’ve never really seen a horror game that takes place entirely in a car; not like this.

The developer describes beware as “an open-world driving simulation where the player embarks on a long journey of information-gathering through exploration.” You’ll encounter strange urban and rural settings that don’t seem to be of this earth, as well as vehicles that could only come from another dimension. Also, men in black, I’m pretty sure. It even features stealth elements, because what’s more stealthy than a car? What more could you possibly ask for?

If the Beware trailer makes the game seem like something you might like, you can check out an older demo from 2019 here. You can also show your support by donating to Ondrej Svadlena’s Patreon, where you can also get updates on the game’s progress. At the time of writing, Beware doesn’t have a Steam page or anything like that, and probably will not until it’s finished. Regardless, I’ll be keeping an eye on the project, because I love the concept so much.
