Thrillville Off The Rails

Thrillville: Off the Rails is a more lightweight take on the entire situation, since it makes the job a little more bearable, by integrating a lot of humor into it and many other elements that should take the edge off. Thrillville: Off the Rails is a theme parksimulation video game developed by Frontier Developments and published by LucasArts. It is the sequel to the 2006 game Thrillville. The game was released in North America in October 2007.

Plot[edit]

The player's Uncle Mortimer (Brian Greene) congratulates the player for making Thrillville one of the best theme parks in the world and for ridding Globo-Joy from the competition. However, he warns the player that they might try to get revenge. It soon becomes apparent that a spy somehow worked into Thrillville's employment and is stealing the park's ideas for Globo-Joy. After some sleuthing, the player discovers that the spy is actually Vernon Garrison Jr, the son of Globo-Joy's president.

Gameplay[edit]

Like the original game, Thrillville: Off The Rails is a strategy and simulation game about being the park manager of all of the Thrillville theme parks. The game allows the placing and deletion of attractions and buildings such as flat rides, food and drink stalls, bathrooms, games, and also contains various minigames to play both in the park and in the game's 'Party Play' mode, along with editing and allowing the players to ride their own roller coasters inside each of the Thrillville theme parks.

Ne Day, Some developers looked at RollerCoaster Tycoon and Theme Park and decided they just weren't wacky enough. And so, with an injection of pure zany, these maniacs created a game so tubular and so bonkers it just had to be called Off the Rails. This sequel to the console title Thrillville is set upon force-feeding you proof of its craziness until you vomit. From the 'whoa' coasters to the Christopher Lloyd-style scientist nutter to the 'hilarious' minigames, Off the Rails is plain out of this world. At least, it tries to be. Under the veneer of madness, this is a capable but dumbed-down console port of a theme-park sim, dealing with the chores of management through a selection of generic minigames.

These are a mix of every cliche imaginable. A side-scrolling beat-'em-up, a DDR clone, a racer, some kind of Tron rip-off - they're all here, and mostly utterly, utterly boring. To add insult to injury, the PC version is clearly an afterthought. Everything is awkwardly placed, with unintuitive controls and console-style menus leading to unnecessary fumbling.

Thrillville: Off the Rails is the dad-dance of the simulation world, aiming low and missing to such an extent that even kids may find the stupidity and oversimplification condescending. While some elements are playable and, occasionally, fun, this mixture of Fisher-Price Theme Park and a bunch of Flash-esque minigames isn't recommendable in the slightest.
